Feliz Cinco de Mayo, Austin — Here's Where to Celebrate Tonight

by Christi Davidson

Let me tell you something about Austin that I never get tired of saying: this city knows how to celebrate.

Today is Cinco de Mayo — and if you're not already planning where you're going tonight, allow me to help. Because after 43 years in this community, and 28 years helping families plant roots here, I can tell you with complete confidence that Austin's food and culture scene is one of the greatest gifts this city gives the people who live here.

Cinco de Mayo is worth a moment of context, too. It commemorates Mexico's remarkable victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 — a genuine underdog story. In Austin, we honor it the way we honor most things: with great food, great people, and a frozen margarita that earns its keep.

A Few of My Austin Favorites Tonight

Austin is overflowing with incredible options tonight, but here are a few spots worth knowing about:

Comedor (501 Colorado St.) is my pick if you want to elevate the evening. This is modern Mexican done beautifully — think bone marrow tacos, crab totopos, and a $6 Comedor Margarita during happy hour from 5 to 6 p.m. The downtown views and natural light make it feel like a special occasion even on a Tuesday.

Suerte on East Austin has their "Lucky Hour" running Monday through Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. If you haven't had their suadero tacos, tonight is the night. It's the kind of place that reminds you why East Austin has become one of the most exciting dining corridors in the country.

Licha's Cantina on East 6th runs one of the most generous happy hour menus in the city — $8 cocktails, cochinita pibil sopecitos, and a 32-ounce Sol Familiar that I will not personally be ordering but fully respect.

And Our Home Base — Chuy's at Research and Duval

Now, I'll be honest with you. As much as I love a beautiful dining experience, on a Tuesday Cinco de Mayo with a frozen margarita calling my name? You will find me at our neighborhood Chuy's at Research and Duval. It's been our spot for years. The frozen margaritas are legendary, the chips and queso are non-negotiable, and there is nowhere I would rather be on a night like tonight.

So here's my offer: if you see me at Chuy's tonight and tell me you saw this post — the frozen margarita is on me. No catch. Just my way of saying thank you for being part of this community.

Why Austin Is Worth Every Penny

I share moments like this not just because I love this city — though I genuinely do — but because this is what I want every relocation client to understand before they ever sign a contract. Austin isn't just a market. It isn't just a zip code or a price per square foot. It is a community with a soul, a food scene with genuine character, and a quality of life that is, in my 28-year professional opinion, unlike anywhere else in Texas.

If you're thinking about making Austin home — or if you already live here and want to make the most of it — I would be honored to be your guide. That is, after tonight's margarita.

Feliz Cinco de Mayo, Austin. 🌮
